In addition to HK$20.8 million in the Triple Trio jackpot, the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool will carry an extra HK$2.8 million, bringing the total prize pool to a record high of HK$167.2 million. The increase is the result of the Club’s long-term plan to provide the right incentives for owners to maintain Hong Kong’s world-class horseracing.

The award ceremony will take place in the presence of government officials, representatives from the sponsoring enterprise and business community, and celebrities. A series of scientific demonstrations will be held, and interactive exhibits will be on display. In addition to honouring scientists for their outstanding achievements in scientific research and technological innovation, the event aims to promote public awareness of science.

A prestigious prize for the best scholarly work on Hong Kong has been awarded to a pair of scholars from Australia and Hong Kong for their research into the impact of globalization on the city’s society, economy and culture. Professors Peter K. Wong and Jeremy Wong, both of the University of Sydney, have won the 2018 Hong Kong Studies Association Prize for their book Hong Kong as a Global Player: Economic, Social, Cultural and Political Dimensions.

The HK$100,000 prize will be presented at the Association’s annual conference in Hong Kong in November. The Association, founded in 2018, is an international scholarly organization for researchers and students in all fields of Hong Kong Studies, with members in America, Europe and Asia. The Association is an affiliate of the Association for Asian Studies and is open to all academics, students and non-academics interested in Hong Kong.

Three Hong Kong activists and the pro-democracy group behind the Umbrella Movement have been nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, a nomination Beijing has denounced as “meddling”. Joshua Wong, Nathan Law and Alex Chow were all part of the Umbrella Movement, protesting against Beijing’s attempts to erode Hong Kong’s long-cherished autonomy under the ‘one country, two systems’ principle.

The Charter is designed to promote scientific and standardized management of BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE, and ensure that the review is conducted professionally, objectively and fairly. The operation of the award will be performed based on an independent review procedure, and no organization or individual shall exert undue influence over the review process. The selection will be based on an objective assessment of the candidates’ scientific and technological innovation, and the transformation and social or economic value created. The Board, which consists of a Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team, will make the final decision on the award winner.
