Dominoes are a classic game that many of us have enjoyed at one point or another. The fun of watching a series of dominoes fall after a single domino is placed on top of them is mesmerizing. In addition to being used for the simple game of domino, they can be set up to create artwork and other interesting structures.
In the game of domino, players take turns placing dominoes on top of each other so that each domino has a value equal to the previous one. When the first player cannot play any more dominoes because of a lack of matching values, they pass their turn and continue to place dominoes on top of each other until all the pieces have been played or no more can be played. The player with the most dominoes is the winner.
In more advanced versions of the game, players are able to place dominoes so that each one has a value equal to the total of the number of dominoes on the table. This game can be played with just two people or several at the same time, making it a great group activity. It also has the added benefit of allowing students to practice basic math skills as they work to set up their dominoes so that they can win.
While a domino is a very simple, and yet fascinating, object, it can actually be more powerful than we realize. A 1983 experiment conducted by University of British Columbia physicist Lorne Whitehead showed that dominoes can knock down items over one-and-a-half times their size. He placed 13 dominoes on a table, with the largest ones being about three feet tall. The smallest domino was 5 millimeters tall and needed to be placed with tweezers. He then filmed the display in slow motion, and when the first domino fell, it knocked down the entire stack of 13 objects that had been placed on top of it.
As a result of this demonstration, Domino became a popular toy among children and adults who loved the mesmerizing way that one small action could impact the rest of the scene. The word “domino” is often associated with authority and mastery, and as a result it has been used in a variety of contexts for businesses, products, and individuals looking to convey a sense of power and proficiency.
After an insane Scarlet Witch depowered most of the mutants during M-Day, Domino reformed X-Force along with Shatterstar and Caliban and helped them to liberate mutants who had been sequestered by the Office of National Emergency. She was later possessed by the undying alien Aentaeros, but after Cable intervened, she rejoined X-Force and helped to hinder John Sublime’s Third Species mutant organ harvesting movement. She eventually joined Xavier’s X-Corporation in Hong Kong, and was recruited to become the leader of its Hong Kong branch. Domino was later resurrected by alien technology and returned to X-Force once again.
